Vitebsk region will join the international public campaign "Earth Hour" on March 30

Annually, on the last Saturday of March, the international public campaign "Earth Hour" is held. In Belarus, this year it will take place on March 30 for the 16th time, starting at 8:30 PM and lasting exactly one hour according to local time.

The campaign is aimed at attracting public attention to environmental and energy saving issues and is in line with the republic's policy of increasing energy efficiency and fostering a culture of economy and thriftiness in society.

It is intended to remind people of the colossal harm inflicted upon nature. Every year, the ecological situation deteriorates further. The most significant problem of the ecological crisis is the uncontrolled emission of carbon dioxide.

Traditionally, enterprises, institutions, and organizations in Vitebsk and the Vitebsk region join "Earth Hour" by switching off the illumination of administrative buildings, decorative lighting of advertisements, outdoor lighting, and utility rooms of educational, healthcare, and cultural institutions, as well as trade and production enterprises for one hour.

Turning off the lights for one hour helps reduce harmful emissions into the Earth's atmosphere and allows every concerned individual to contribute to energy conservation and the preservation of our planet's climate.

In support of the campaign, educational and cultural institutions organize contests of thematic drawings and posters, informational lectures, and book and illustration exhibitions.
