The amount of material assistance to WWII veterans in the Vitebsk region will be about Br2.2 million

Veterans and disabled individuals of the Great Patriotic War, as well as those affected by it, residing in the Vitebsk region are planned to receive approximately Br2.2 million by Victory Day. This was announced to journalists by Boris Efremov, Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

"The total amount of payments in the Vitebsk region this year will be Br2.2 million," said Boris Efremov. According to him, compared to 2023, the amount of financial assistance has been increased for all recipients.

In total, as of March 1, there are 140 veterans of the Great Patriotic War and 1766 individuals affected by its consequences living in the region. Efforts are made to surround each of these individuals with care and attention, including from the social service. Educational institutions, enterprises, and organizations have been assigned to provide patronage assistance to veterans.

Social service specialists have primarily surveyed the living conditions of these citizens during the winter period and have taken into account the wishes expressed by 23 individuals. Their issues have now been resolved. "If a veteran lives in the city, they may have certain problems; if they live in a rural area, seasonal work is approaching. Assistance may be needed with tidying up private yards or with upcoming agricultural work.

. Therefore, as in previous years, each of these individuals is under the supervision of the social service and a social worker. It should be noted that 140 people, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, are all served by the social service and, by decision of local authorities, are exempt from paying for these services," noted Boris Efremov.

The work to identify problematic issues and provide assistance to war veterans and victims of its consequences continues, he emphasized. The social service is assisted in this by partners – veteran organizations, the Women's Union, and the BRSM. "If we cannot resolve a certain problem within the framework of current legislation, then these movements come to our aid," explained the Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. In addition, together with representatives of relevant organizations, employees of the committee's departments visit veterans and war victims not only on the eve of May 9 and July 3 but also on other significant dates and holidays.

"We are making our contribution," said Boris Efremov. "Even just to communicate, talk, listen – and the veterans understand that they are needed by someone and that they have not been forgotten. The entire range of events and opportunities is what we can offer them today (not onlyco state material assistance), - all this will be done. We will reach every person."

Today, the regional organizing committee discussed the preparation and holding of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
