Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vyacheslav Durnov met with students and faculty of VSMU as part of the civil-patriotic marathon "#United".

– 2024 is a year rich in events, – emphasized Vyacheslav Durnov. – This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. We live under a peaceful sky, and this is important for the development of our country and the life of every person. We are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the institution of the presidency and the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Belarus. For the first time in 2024, a single voting day will be held.

The preparation for the elections is a complex organizational process, emphasized Vyacheslav Durnov. In the current election campaign across the republic, we will elect 110 deputies to the Parliament and 12,514 deputies to local Soviets. For the Vitebsk region, 14 constituencies have been formed for the House of Representatives, and 33 candidates for deputies have been registered. Among them are four citizens under the age of 31, 10 women, three current deputies of the House of Representatives, and five current deputies of local Soviets. They represent all spheres of our country's activities – social, industry, transport, construction, etc.

– We have nominated 3,011 candidates for local Soviets of Deputies, of which 2,969 are competing for a deputy mandate. Pre-election campaigning is underway until February 24, so anyone has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the candidates, and early voting begins on February 20, – added Vyacheslav Durnov. – Since we are electing deputies at all levels, the number of ballots will vary. In the regional center, a voter will receive three, and in rural areas – four.

Addressing the students and faculty of the university, Vyacheslav Durnov emphasized that today our country has approached a significant event, having noticeably updated a number of important elements of the political system. Thus, the party system in the country has been brought into compliance with the Constitution. Public organizations and party structures are actively participating in the electoral process.

– A competent and correct management system is very important for us so that we are not vulnerable in the modern world, but are independent and live in a peaceful and happy country, – noted Vyacheslav Durnov and urged young voters to take part in a united effort to form the governing bodies in the district, region, and country. – It is now that the development prospects of our native Belarus are being laid. If we think about its future, we must not stand aside from important political events. Every vote is a personal contribution, a brick that will become the foundation for the reliable foundation of our Motherland.

VSMU Rector Alexey Chukanov noted: "For stability to continue, everyone must approach the processes happening around us with understanding. There are many beacons that 'point' the way for us in a multipolar world. But our task is to choose the right path so that our country continues to maintain its sovereignty, independence, and peaceful skies. To participate in the unified voting day means to show civic consciousness and be responsible for the future."

After the dialogue platform, students actively asked the speakers questions. At the end of the event, those gathered in the hall took part in the republican youth information and educational project "Pashtouka.BEL".
