В Витебской области утверждены составы областной и окружных избирательных комиссий по выборам депутатов в единый день голосования

The composition of the regional and district election commissions for the election of deputies on the single voting day has been approved in the Vitebsk region

On December 7, a joint meeting of the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee was held. The agenda item was "Formation of electoral commissions for the election of deputies on the single voting day of February 25, 2024."

– Heads of committees, departments, and divisions of the regional executive committee and regional organizations, representatives of political parties and other public associations, and trade unions that nominated their representatives to the regional and district electoral commissions have been invited to the meeting, – noted Alexander Subbotin, Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, opening the meeting. – We need to consider the issue of forming the Vitebsk Regional and district electoral commissions.

Noting that a single voting day will be held in our country, Alexander Subbotin emphasized that this will help avoid a permanent electoral process, which created certain difficulties for the state and society. Even before the start of the election campaign, local government and self-government bodies of the region carried out meticulous preparatory work to determine the number and boundaries of electoral districts and the average number of voters per district.
– Today, we have to solve one of the key issues: the formation of the Vitebsk Regional and district electoral commissions, – emphasized the head of the regional authority. – This decision must be balanced and responsible. After all, these commissions not only organize the elections but also exercise control over compliance with electoral legislation in our region. The composition of the commissions should be selected based on their professional, moral, and human qualities so that the powers of the commissions are fully implemented within the deadlines set by the Election Calendar Plan.
On December 5, the nomination of candidates for the regional and district electoral commissions was completed. All entities that, in accordance with the Electoral Code, have the right to nominate their representatives to the regional and district electoral commissions have exercised this right.

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev recalled that by the decision of the Central Election Commission, 14 electoral districts have been formed in the Vitebsk region for the election of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the 8th convocation. The Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies has formed 60 electoral districts for the election of deputies to the Regional Council of Deputies. Under the new electoral legislation, elections of deputies to the House of Representatives and the Regional Council are conducted by the same district commissions.

– 13 people have been nominated to the Vitebsk Regional Election Commission, of which 11 people (85%) are from political parties and other public associations, including 3 people (23%) from political parties. 2 people (15%) are from work collectives. A total of 182 people have been nominated to the 14 district election commissions, of which 141 people (77%) are from political parties and other public associations, including 22 people (12%) from political parties, and 4 people (2%) from work collectives. 37 people (20%) were nominated by collecting signatures.
The regional and district election commissions are formed with 9 to 13 members. Members of the Regional Executive Committee and the Presidium of the Regional Council of Deputies voted for the numerical composition of the commissions to be 13 members.
