Belarus will celebrate the International Day of Energy Saving on November 11

From November 8 to 11, 2023, the Department for Energy Efficiency is holding the republican information and educational campaign "Belarus – Energy-Efficient Country" under the slogan "Switch on Energy Efficiency!", dedicated to this day.

The campaign is held for the purpose of implementing the provisions of Directive of the President of the Republic of Belarus of June 14, 2007 No. 3 "On Priority Directions for Strengthening the Economic Security of the State", the Law of the Republic of Belarus of January 8, 2015 No. 239-Z "On Energy Saving".

The goal of the campaign is to raise public awareness of the importance of efficient use of energy resources, possible ways and methods of their saving, including in everyday life and at home, which is a significant measure in improving the well-being of citizens and the economic growth of the country as a whole.

The Vitebsk Regional Inspectorate for the Rational Use of Fuel and Energy Resources has been and remains the flagship of this event in the Vitebsk region.

In the field of energy saving, the Vitebsk region is solving several strategic tasks, such as reducing the energy intensity of manufactured products, which increases their competitiveness, as well as reducing the republic's energy dependence on imported energy resources by maximizing the involvement of local energy resources in the fuel balance, including production waste, secondary energy resources, and the use of energy from renewable sources.

On the eve of the holiday, we would like to say a few words about the results of the region's implementation of the State Program "Energy Saving" for 2021-2025 for the elapsed period of 2023 (hereinafter - the State Program).

Cumulatively, the fulfillment of the target for saving fuel and energy resources (FER) since the beginning of the State Program for the period from 2021 to 9 months of 2023 amounted to 258.2 thousand tons of conventional fuel (t.c.f.), or 97.8% of the five-year target of 264 thousand t.c.f. The overfulfillment of the target for saving FER became possible due to the implementation of additional measures in the oil and energy sectors, as well as the implementation of energy-saving measures by legal entities of the region.

The Vitebsk Regional Communal Unitary Enterprise of Water Supply and Sewerage "Vitebskoblvodo canal" has implemented two heat pump units at the treatment facilities in Gorodok and at the iron removal station in Vitebsk. Heat pumps are alternative energy sources that allow obtaining cheap heat without harm to the environment.

The unitary enterprise of housing and communal services of the Liozno district has carried out the reconstruction of the central boiler house with the installation of two boiler units operating on fuel chips.

DKUP "Enterprise of boiler houses and heating networks of KUP ZhKKh of Polotsk city" has commissioned the first start-up complex of the facility "reconstruction of the boiler house with the installation of boilers operating on local fuels with mechanized loading at the address: Polotsk city, Trosnitsky lane".

GP "VPK i TS" continues construction and installation works on the reconstruction of the "Agros" boiler house in Vitebsk city. The commissioning of the facility is planned by the end of the current year.

The share of local energy resources in the total fuel consumption of organizations of the Main Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee for January-September 2023 amounted to 73.9% and is the highest in the republic. In district housing and communal services organizations, which in previous years introduced additional capacities for local energy resources, the share of local energy resources in the total consumption of boiler and furnace fuel is approaching 90-100%. For example: KUP ZhKKh of Liozno district (100%), KUP ZhKKh "Braslav-kommunalnik" (98.9%), Verkhnedvinskoye GRUPP ZhKKh (96.6%), KUP "OrshaTeploSeti" (91.8%). Out of 23 housing and communal services enterprises in the region, 16 had a share of local energy resources in the total consumption of boiler and furnace fuel of more than 80% for 9 months of 2023.

As a result of the implementation of such measures, the share of local fuel types in boiler and furnace fuel for the period January-September of the current year amounted to 7.5% with a target of 6.4%, and the share of renewable energy sources was 6.4% with a target of 5.3%.

Thanks to the joint efforts of enterprises and organizations, and district executive committees, the target indicator for energy saving has been overfulfilled by the region. With a target of minus 0.8% for January-September, it amounted to minus 2.9%. Such districts and cities as Braslavsky, Verkhnedvinsky, Gluboksky, Lioznensky, Tolochinsky, Sharkovshchinsky, Shumilinsky, Vitebsk city and Novopolotsk city fulfill this indicator annually in the current five-year period.

Great attention is also paid to the process of forming careful and economical attitudes towards energy resources in the younger generation. The education system of the region plays a leading role here, forming an understanding of the importance of energy saving, energy efficiency, and the use of environmentally friendly energy sources among the younger generation.

To draw attention to energy saving issues and foster a culture of energy consumption, the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus has been holding the republican competition "Energy Marathon" for several years. Since 2018, the republican competition has been included in the Sustainable Development Council's Work Plan as a republican event to popularize the Sustainable Development Goals among children and youth. Special attention is paid to demonstrating the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 7 "Affordable and Clean Energy," during the competition.

For the people of the Vitebsk region, energy saving is not just about beautiful posters and loud campaigns. It is about daily, important work for the benefit of the family, the economy, and the energy efficiency of our country.
