An agreement on cooperation in the field of social protection was signed by the Vitebsk and Smolensk regions during the visit of a delegation from the northern region of Belarus to Smolensk. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vera Astapenko, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

The document was signed between the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Ministry of Social Development of the Smolensk Region. It provides for joint events for experience exchange, seminars, and meetings. As part of the agreement, a roadmap for cooperation between the Belarusian and Russian regions has been developed.

Additionally, three agreements were signed by the territorial centers for social services for the population of the Beshenkovichi and Orsha districts and the Maksimovsky psycho-neurological boarding house for the elderly and disabled with social service institutions of the Smolensk region. They will be able to hold joint forums, round tables, and other formats of meetings to share new ideas and social practices. As Vera Astapenko noted, 17 similar documents had been signed earlier between the territorial centers for social services and boarding houses of the two regions.

The parties plan to develop work to improve the quality of life for elderly citizens and people with disabilities, and families with children. At least once a quarter, institutions of the regions will hold joint events. Soon, colleagues from the Smolensk region will pay a return business visit.

"Based on the results of last year, we jointly published a methodological guide on social practices of the Union State. Now we plan to publish a methodological guide on working with people with disabilities. Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov will also participate in its creation," said Vera Astapenko.

During a business visit to the Smolensk region, representatives of Belarus visited local social service institutions, familiarized themselves with the work of the supported living department, the long-term care system, and discussed various social projects. The Vitebsk delegation plans to implement the best practices of their Russian colleagues.
