A regional seminar on corn sowing and silage harvesting was held in the Dubrovno district

Sergey Egorov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Committee for Agriculture and Food, outlined three key components for obtaining a good winter grain harvest during a regional seminar on sowing and harvesting silage corn.

Heads of district agricultural and food committees, heads of crop production departments and their deputies, and responsible employees of the regional agricultural and food committee took part in the field event held in the Dubrovensky district.

“The optimal sowing period for winter grains has begun today,” noted Sergey Egorov. “This is especially important for the Vitebsk region, as winter grains always provide us with the main harvest in the overall gross grain yield. This year, the plan is set at 230 thousand hectares, and at the seminar, we are once again emphasizing the importance of this moment and setting specific tasks for each district. The three most important factors are timing, sowing quality, and seed material. Not all farms are systematically updating their varieties today. Of course, we are not losing sight of fodder procurement. Given the lag compared to last year, it is important that work does not stop for a single day. Time is tight in field operations now, and all efforts must be made to complete everything qualitatively and on time.”

The head of the committee noted that the yield in the Dubrovensky district is one of the best in the region, and the management always fulfills all assigned plans.
“Grains occupy more than 50% of the arable land here. This indicates that people are focused on achieving results. It is evident that the organization of work in the district is at the proper level – everyone is mobilized to accomplish the set tasks,” added Sergey Egorov.
At the fields of OAO “Bobrovo-Agro,” seminar participants were able to assess the organization of winter barley sowing and analyze the nuances of its cultivation. The specifics of corn harvesting and silage preparation were discussed at the agricultural production cooperative named after Yu. Smirnov of Orshansky KHP.
