The sculptural sign “Bukvar” was unveiled at the Day of Writing in Horadok
The Verenichinsky Square in Gorodok greeted the participants of the anniversary Day of Belarusian Written Language with a renewed look. With the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko, Minister of Information Vladimir Pertsov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, Chairman of the Gorodok District Executive Committee Irina Polyakova, and a broad representation of diplomats from Russia, Syria, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, the sculptural composition "Bukvar" (Primer) was unveiled here.
The author of the work is Igor Silka, a student of the Belarusian Academy of Arts:
- The impetus for creating the sketch was the world's first primer, published 405 years ago at the printing house of the Vilnius Holy Spirit Orthodox Brotherhood. According to historians, this book also has Belarusian roots. Seeing the fonts of the original primer, I decided to stylize them, arranging them into an unusual composition that looks interesting from all angles.
Another new feature of Verenichinsky Square is the "Tree of Belarusian Writing." The "wonder" made of stainless steel, over two and a half meters high, has books instead of a trunk. The front of the sculpture features a scroll with the holiday logo and the inscription "Verenichinsky Square." The creator of the composition, Yuri Tatarinovich, director of the Glubokoye enterprise "V azhure," calculates:
- A total of 19 books by bright, talented authors who have glorified the Gorodok region. It is symbolic that the last of them is made in the form of a flower. This is a sign: the continuity of generations, creativity, and life go on!
