Vitebsk region leads other regions in potato yield – 423 centners per hectare
Vitebsk region is confidently ahead of other regions in potato yield – 423 centners per hectare.
In total, as of the morning of August 28, two percent of the cultivated harvest has been gathered in the country, and in the northernmost region – over 9 percent. The potatoes are large and beautiful. Early varieties are currently being harvested. The harvesting process will continue throughout September.
– The leader in terms of acreage is Tolochin Cannery. It has about 1.1 thousand hectares, while the entire region has 1.9 thousand hectares, – notes Valery Nerozya, Head of the Department of Land Cultivation, Crop Production, and Fodder Production of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee. – Agricultural enterprises in Vitebsk and Polotsk districts grow potatoes, and there are also farms that achieve good yields year after year. But the Tolochin enterprise does not give up its leading position. This year's harvest is abundant because the technology was followed, necessary fertilizers were applied to meet the full demand, and excellent varieties were selected. Therefore, the yield is 438 centners per hectare. In previous years, potato fields in the region numbered tens of thousands of hectares. Other farms could also be more active in cultivation today, but a number of important factors must be considered: it is necessary to find promising sales markets, build storage facilities, and have appropriate high-performance equipment. All of this together yields the desired result.
