In the Vitebsk region, twice as much rapeseed has been threshed compared to last year

As of the morning of August 11, over 120 thousand hectares of cereal and leguminous crops have been harvested in the Vitebsk region.

Another day or two, and 50 percent of the areas will be harvested. Farmers have threshed about 330 thousand tons of grain. The yield was 25.9 centners per hectare. Unfortunately, due to prolonged drought, it is almost 7 centners less than last year.

However, the year has been successful for rapeseed. The yield is twice as high. This is not only due to the increase in cultivated areas across the districts but also thanks to the higher yield of this crop. This season, rapeseed yielded an average of 18 centners per hectare, with approximately 60 thousand tons of oilseeds harvested.

As for grain crops, most farms in the region are currently harvesting winter crops, while spring crops are still ripening. In terms of harvesting speed, the Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk, Polotsk, and Sharkovshchyna districts are leading, having harvested over half of their areas. In terms of yield, the undisputed leaders are the Postavy district. They are threshing 33.9 centners per hectare. The Vitebsk and Orsha districts show slightly lower figures.

Agronomists predict a slight decrease in the overall yield for the region after the mass harvesting of spring grain crops begins – these crops, due to the heat, were unable to gain strength, and the ears turned out to be light.
