The first thresher to reach a thousand tons in grain harvesting has been identified in the Vitebsk region
Vasil Kosov, a combine operator at Shaiterovo OJSC in the Verkhnedvinsk district, was the first in the Vitebsk region to harvest a thousand tons of grain and rapeseed.
One of the best machine operators at the farm is 41 years old, and he has been working in the fields of Shaiterovo since he was eighteen – plowing, sowing, applying organic fertilizers, and harvesting. During the harvest season, he consistently demonstrates high results. Three years ago, he switched to a New Holland combine and harvested over 4,000 tons in his first season. In other years, his performance has been close to or above 3,000 tons. Vasil Kosov has been honored multiple times at the regional agrarian festival "Dazhynki" and received a Letter of Gratitude from the Prime Minister of Belarus.
When asked how he manages to achieve such high yields, the harvest hero replies: the equipment is good and the yield is high.
Although, as noted by the Chairman of the Verkhnedvinsk District Executive Committee, Vasil Shilou, the weather did not please the agrarians this year.
- You saw the conditions in the Vitebsk region – drought. Meanwhile, the harvesting campaign started earlier than in 2022, and to date, we are ahead of last year in terms of harvest. Of course, we won't match last year's harvest, but the results are good, and he is the first thousand-tonner from our district, – said Vasil Shilou.
Congratulating the combine operator on overcoming this significant milestone, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Aleksandr Subbotin, noted that the first thousand-tonner in the Vitebsk region is a great celebration and victory.
– You seize every minute between the rains, understanding that you cannot waste such precious time for harvesting, thereby ensuring the food security of Belarus, – emphasized the head of the region.
– I am pleased that my work as the President's Aide – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region begins with such a pleasant event. I am glad that I can express words of gratitude to the land tillers. The weather conditions have spoiled our mood, but we have always overcome difficult situations thanks to the machine operators, the guys who work in the fields from morning till night, – said the President's Aide – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region, Igor Brylo.
According to the Director of Shaiterovo OJSC, Mikhail Gumnenkov, 12 combines are participating in the harvest. The area of grain and leguminous crops in the farm is slightly over 2.3 thousand hectares, 44% of the area has been harvested, yielding 4.6 thousand tons of grain at a yield of 45 centners per hectare. Considering the challenging year in terms of drought, the farm also has good indicators for winter rapeseed. Of the 250 hectares, more than two-thirds have been threshed, with an oilseed yield of 33 centners per hectare.
In the Vitebsk region, 48.8 thousand hectares (18.2% of the area) of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested, 130 thousand tons of grain have been threshed, with an average yield of 26.6 centners per hectare.
