In 5 months, the overall injury rate in the Vitebsk region decreased by 7 percent
The state of industrial injuries and the results of the month-long campaign to ensure safe working conditions in agriculture were discussed at a commission meeting at the regional executive committee. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the regional executive committee, Vyacheslav Durnov.
Since the beginning of the year, the situation regarding industrial injuries in the Vitebsk region has remained stable and manageable, noted Boris Efremov, Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the regional executive committee, in his report.
Over 5 months, the overall injury rate has decreased by 7 percent (from 85 to 79 cases). A reduction in fatal and severe injuries has been achieved. The decrease in industrial injuries in organizations of communal property ownership amounted to 33 percent, or minus 16 cases across all types. In the agricultural sector, the industrial injury rate has decreased by 28 percent, or minus 7 cases. The number of injuries to employees under the influence of alcohol has significantly decreased, with only one such incident registered, compared to 10 cases last year. Regarding the causes, violations of labor protection legal acts, admission to work without training, internships, knowledge checks, failure to provide protective equipment, and non-fulfillment of labor protection duties by managers and specialists remain predominant. The proportion of causes attributable to the actions of the victims themselves remains significant, particularly their violation of labor and production discipline, disregard for instructions, and personal carelessness.
The region has achieved good indicators, but this is conditional, as even one case of death or disability is an irreversible incident, noted Boris Efremov.
The commission meeting outlined a series of practical measures aimed at further consolidating the positive trend of eliminating all workplace injuries. Thematic month-long campaigns, decadal events, and safety weeks are an important link in the system of preventive measures. For two years, the Vitebsk region has been successfully implementing the principles of the Zero Injury Concept. During the safety month for the sowing campaign, no employee injuries were recorded, which once again confirms the effectiveness of the preventive measures taken.
The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee has signed a corresponding order on holding a month of safety from June 12 in the organization of student detachments' activities and during mass harvesting of grasses and fodder crops.
