Vitebsk summed up the results of the civil-patriotic campaign «Memory Marathon»

Vitebsk has summed up the results of the civic-patriotic campaign "Memory Marathon". The time capsule, a symbol of the "Memory Marathon" campaign, was handed over by the cadet school to Gymnasium No. 5 of Vitebsk named after Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Lyudnikov.

At the regional student forum "Memory of the Past – a Step Towards a Peaceful Future," held at the regional palace of children and youth, the winners of the civic-patriotic campaign "Memory Marathon," which started in the winter of this year, were announced. The event was preceded by a presentation of interactive museum exhibits from educational institutions of the Vitebsk region.

The civic-patriotic campaign "Memory Marathon" is dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation. Its main goal is to foster civic and patriotic qualities in students, preserve the historical truth and memory of the heroic past of the Belarusian people, and perpetuate the names of famous countrymen and defenders of the Fatherland.

The participants of the marathon are pupils of kindergartens, schoolchildren, and students of secondary vocational education institutions. The campaign aroused genuine interest among young people and a desire to engage with the history of their native country. As part of the regional stage, a set of events on thematic areas was held in educational institutions. During this time, dozens of research papers and videos about countrymen who defended our Motherland during the war were completed and prepared, tourist routes to places of military glory were developed, and much more.

– I would like to thank everyone for the work you have done over several months as part of the "Memory Marathon" campaign, – emphasized Vyacheslav Durnov, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, addressing the attendees. – Many words have been spoken these days about the significance of historical memory, but there can never be too many such words. Our people deserve that history and memory live on. This is the foundation on which our state is built. It is important that you also carry and preserve this truth. I sincerely wish you peaceful skies, creative work, and good studies. You must become competent specialists for our country to continue to prosper.

The importance of preserving the names of heroes and the pages of the war was emphasized by Vladimir Guk, Deputy Prosecutor of the Vitebsk region, Sergey Denisov, Chairman of the regional organization of the Belarusian Union of Officers, and Larisa Brueva, a veteran of the search movement and a member of the international association "People's Memory of the Defenders of the Fatherland." Each of them wished the children and their mentors a peaceful sky, health, and success in all their good endeavors. The honored guests are convinced that participation in the "Memory Marathon" will help schoolchildren to study and feel the history of the Great Patriotic War more deeply.

– Today we are summing up the results and putting a final point in the "Memory Marathon," but not in the work that we are doing, – noted Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Main Department for Education of the Regional Executive Committee. – Perhaps, when implementing the initiative in one of the educational institutions of the city, the organizers of this marathon did not think that after half a year we would be holding a large regional event, as the initiative was supported by district after district. I want each of us to remember at what cost peace was achieved by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. And the future fate of the country and peace on our land depend only on us.
