Key events of the Day of Belarusian Written Language in Horadok became known
Minister of Information Vladimir Pertsov, during the first meeting on the preparation and holding of the 30th Day of Belarusian Written Language on September 3, spoke about the key events of the holiday.
Gorodok, Vitebsk region, has been designated as the capital of the Day of Belarusian Written Language in 2023. The main theme of the holiday in the Year of Peace and Creation, declared in the Republic of Belarus, is planned to be the thirtieth anniversary of the Day of Belarusian Written Language, Vladimir Pertsov said. "It is symbolic that this anniversary is celebrated on the Vitebsk land, as it gave the main impetus to the development of Belarusian book publishing. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Francysk Skaryna, Simeon of Polotsk, Vasil Tyapinsky - they are all natives of the Vitebsk land. Also, during the Day of Belarusian Written Language 2023, the anniversary of the Belarusian Soviet writer, translator and playwright Yanka Mavr (this year marks the 140th anniversary of his birth), the creation of the poem "Taras on Parnassus" by Konstantin Verenitsyn, a native of Gorodok district, as well as the history, culture and traditions of the Gorodok land will be reflected," the minister said. Taking these themes into account, the Ministry of Information, together with the Ministry of Culture, is working on candidates for the role of the main director of the event.
According to Vladimir Pertsov, a distinctive feature of the celebration of the 30th Day of Belarusian Written Language may be thematic exhibitions of cities where the holiday was previously held. An exhibition is also planned that will accumulate numerous exhibits on the history, culture and traditions of peace-loving Belarus, collected in more than 40 books by historian and collector Vladimir Likhodedov.
Traditionally, as part of the holiday, the solemn opening ceremony of the Day of Belarusian Written Language and the awarding of the winners of the "National Literary Prize" competition, an international round table with the participation of Belarusian and foreign writers, a scientific and practical conference "Gorodok Readings" in conjunction with the National Academy of Sciences, the final of the children's competition "Living Classics" in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and CJSC "Stolichnoye Televideniye" will be held. Within the framework of the holiday, the scientific and educational conference "The Road to the Shrine" will also be held.
The Ministry of Information will organize the work of the Book and Press Festival and expositions of the publishing house "Belarus Today", the publishing house "Zvyazda", OJSC "Belkniga", RUP "Belsoyuzpechat", the sale of books by Belarusian publishers, stationery and souvenir products, including those with the state symbols of the Republic of Belarus.
For the holiday, sketches for the design of the main stage of the Festival of Books and Press, printed materials, invitations, envelopes, posters, banners, transport passes, invitations to the spectator stands, and so on will be developed and submitted for approval by the organizing committee. The release of thematic printed publications dedicated to Gorodok and the Gorodok district is planned.
In addition, assistance will be provided to the Gorodok District Executive Committee in developing sketches for the festive decoration of the city in a unified artistic style of the holiday. Accreditation of journalists will be organized, and broad coverage of the preparation and holding of the Day of Belarusian Written Language will be ensured in the media.
"Taking into account the positive experience of organizing and holding this holiday in the previous year and in order to more rationally use administrative, organizational, and financial resources, as well as considering the remoteness of Gorodok, it is proposed to consider the possibility of holding the opening ceremony of the Day of Belarusian Written Language on Saturday, September 2. This will allow planning the holiday program as follows. The Day of Belarusian Written Language opens on Saturday, the exhibition and trade pavilions of the Festival of Books and Press will start operating, and the main stage will become the venue for the main solemn event - the opening of the holiday at the most advantageous time in terms of the use of technical means, as well as for high-quality television broadcasting. On Sunday, in cooperation with the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, it is planned to hold a concert program, during which the ceremony of handing over the pennant to the capital of the Day of Belarusian Written Language in 2024 and other events will take place," Vladimir Pertsov made the proposal.
