The Verkhnedvinsk Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora offers citizens to VOLUNTARILY surrender prohibited fishing gear
The Verkhnedvinsk Interdistrict Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora is conducting a large-scale campaign to confiscate prohibited amateur fishing gear.
Citizens are invited to voluntarily surrender any prohibited amateur fishing gear they possess – nets, net fishing gear (such as buoys, mereshi, seines, dragnets, etc.), and spearfishing gear (harpoons). In doing so, they will not be held liable for possessing prohibited fishing gear.
During the spring spawning season, catching fish with nets causes the greatest damage to nature, and the compensation for the harm caused, which violators must pay, is calculated using triple tariffs. For this reason, inspectors strive to confiscate poaching gear before it is used in water bodies, and its owners incur numerous problems and financial obligations.
Liability for the illegal storage and trade of net materials is provided for by Article 16.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus. For individuals, the sanction of this article provides for a fine of up to 30 base units, and for entrepreneurs who have illegally risked earning money by selling nets, up to 200 base units.
The inspectorate notes that despite the legislative norm prohibiting the illegal storage and sale of nets being in effect for over four years, it is not widely known that even old, inherited nets stored in attics can lead to legal proceedings.
